The Complex and Adaptive Systems Laboratory is a dynamic multidisciplinary research community advancing scientific knowledge through mathematics and computation.
CASL is an innovative and exciting collaborative research laboratory at UCD which leverages the unique mix of expertise at UCD in various fields. We break down the usual disciplinary walls that hinder breakthrough creative research by putting computer scientists, mathematicians, electronic engineers, geologists, biologists and financial academics in the same space.

We use, as a common language, expertise in applied mathematics and computational science, and identify similar problems and tools across disciplines to ignite collaborations. The UCD CASL brings together 30 PIs and over 170 Postgraduates and Post Doctorates from the UCD Schools of Business, Computer Science and Informatics, Electrical, Electronic & Mechanical Engineering, Geological Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Medicine and Medical Sciences and organizes them into overlapping thematic Clusters These areas are Computational Biology, Computational Science, Data Intensive Science, Sensing Systems, Mathematics of Information & Communication, and Mathematical Finance.
The CASL encourages and fosters collaboration using a number of methods beyond collocation including; CASL Collaborative Demos, the CASL Common Room, CASL Cross-Disciplinary Seminars, CASL Problem of the Week and CASL TV. We hope you enjoy browsing through our website and would welcome any questions or comments that you may have. |
